Your LG TV Is Spying on You… Even When It’s Turned Off

If you own an LG smart TV, there’s something you need to know: it’s spying on you — even when it’s turned off.

A Gamers Nexus investigation found these sets using automatic content recognition to grab screen snapshots and audio, recording and transcribing conversations in the room, crawling your network for other devices, and shipping the data to LG Ad Solutions. They claim information from 216 million TVs worldwide, including 49 million in the U.S. alone. An Apple TV box won’t save you. The only real protection is cutting the Ethernet and forcing the TV to forget your Wi-Fi.

This is the latest proof that “smart” devices have turned our living rooms into data farms — and most of us have already accepted it.

Would you unplug your TV to stop the spying?

Or have we already gone too far to care?
